What's new in DockFlow

Every DockFlow release, with what changed and when it shipped.

28 releases since March 2025 Latest: 1.86 on Oct 11, 2026

  1. 2026

Lock Dock, Last Context, Custom Spacers, Settings 2.0, and Talk integrations with ExtraDock and ExtraBar.

    • DockFlow
    • ExtraDock
    • DockFlow + ExtraDock
    • DockFlow + ExtraBar
  2. v1.86

    Faster launch and steadier presets

DockFlow starts faster, Focus switches stay responsive, and ExtraDock docks no longer hide on their own.

    Improvements

    • Faster, smoother launch. DockFlow no longer checks ExtraDock and ExtraBar while it starts up, which could freeze it for several seconds. It checks only when you open Integrations or connect.
    • Saving presets for Focus filters no longer holds up launch.
    • When a Focus filter switches your preset, the Dock is rearranged in the background so DockFlow stays responsive.
    • Export Logs under Settings, Diagnostics now includes update details and is ready in a few seconds.

    Fixes

    • ExtraDock docks added after saving a preset no longer hide on every preset switch. Docks a preset has never seen stay visible, and docks you switched off in a preset still stay hidden.
  3. v1.85

One library for ExtraDock and ExtraBar

The Integrations library finds ExtraDock and ExtraBar automatically, with no pairing codes.

    New

    • Integrations library. ExtraDock 5, ExtraDock 4, and ExtraBar each get one entry and are found automatically, no pairing codes. Finding an app never launches it or grants access.
    • Your ExtraDock choice, 4 or 5, sticks for presets. Once you disconnect, it stays disconnected until you connect again.

    Improvements

    • Settings scrolling feels smoother, and Settings fits better on smaller screens.
  4. v1.84

    True menu-bar-only launches

Menu Bar Only mode now launches as a real menu bar agent, and background launches stay out of the way.

    Improvements

    • Modified copies are detected at launch, explained, and offered a link to a genuine download. Genuine copies and existing licenses are unaffected.

    Fixes

    • Menu Bar Only no longer flashes a Dock icon at launch. Dock app only and With Dock icon still show it as before.
    • Show main window on launch applies only when you open DockFlow yourself. Launches from ExtraBar or ExtraDock over Talk, dockflow:// links, Shortcuts, and App Intents stay windowless.
  5. v1.82

    Control ExtraDock over Talk

Show and hide ExtraDock docks from your presets through Talk, with ExtraDock 4 and ExtraDock 5.

    New

    • Turn on Use Talk to control ExtraDock, pair once with a verification code, and DockFlow tracks the dock list live from then on.
    • Saved access lets later launches connect without a full re-pair. Forget Connection clears DockFlow's copy.
    • The DockFlow CLI now honors Skip if active, so scripted switches no longer reload the preset you are already on.
    • Pairs with ExtraDock 4.3.18 and 5.0.9 or later.

    Improvements

    • Talk never auto-launches ExtraDock. Only an explicit Connect does.
    • Talk and the legacy ExtraDock bridge are mutually exclusive, one path per preset.
  6. v1.81

    Startup preset and ExtraBar integration

Pick the preset that applies at launch, and share presets with ExtraBar.

    New

    • An optional startup preset in General settings locks in the layout you want after login. Existing setups stay as they are until you choose one.
    • Pair with ExtraBar from Settings, Talk Integrations, with a pairing code, permissions, and grants. Requires ExtraBar 1.5.8 or later.

    Improvements

    • A cleaner ExtraBar handshake, so switching presets from ExtraBar feels instant once paired.

    Fixes

    • Fixed the default or last profile not sticking after login.
  7. CoolDock

    Appit Studio acquires CoolDock

CoolDock, the customizable Dock replacement for macOS, joins the Appit Studio family from its original developer.

    • Existing CoolDock licenses stay valid. Nothing to repurchase.
    • CoolDock 2.0.0 is the first Appit Studio release, moving the app to Appit Studio’s licensing and update system.
  8. v1.77

    More reliable preset switching

Two fixes that protect your saved Dock contents.

    Fixes

    • Failed or overlapping switches no longer overwrite saved Dock contents or scramble folders, files, and URLs.
    • Clicking the DockFlow icon in the Dock reliably restores the main window without creating duplicates.
  9. v1.76

ExtraDock 5 integration and a Focus Mode rebuild

DockFlow now controls ExtraDock 5 alongside ExtraDock 4, and the Focus Mode integration was rebuilt for consistency.

    New

    • Integrate DockFlow with the newly released ExtraDock 5 for macOS 26 Tahoe, with an improved ExtraDock 4 experience as well.
    • Presets can show and hide Extra Docks, so a single click switches the whole workspace. A good fit for multi-monitor setups.

    Improvements

    • Focus Mode was rebuilt to work around recent macOS changes, verified with beta testers. A restart after configuring Focus Filters helps.
  10. ExtraDock 5

    ExtraDock 5 launches

A complete rebuild of ExtraDock for macOS 26 Tahoe, with Liquid Glass and an interface built for modern macOS.

    • ExtraDock 4 continues as the build for macOS 12 through 15.
    • Both generations keep getting updates side by side.
  11. v1.72

    Focus Mode, one more pass

A small release that improves the Focus Mode process for the users still affected after 1.71.

    Improvements

    • Further improvements to how Focus-linked presets are applied.
    • The website moved to its new home at dockflowapp.io.
  12. v1.71

    Consistent Focus Mode

Presets linked to a macOS Focus now apply correctly every time.

    Improvements

    • Creating a preset from your current Dock captures everything accurately, with a clear heads-up if the Dock is empty or cannot be read.

    Fixes

    • Focus Mode stays reliable after renaming a preset or after the Mac has been asleep.
    • The Create Preset and Cancel buttons now respond across their full area.
  13. v1.70

    Back to stable

Version 1.69 overdid some mechanisms, so this release rebuilds the update on the 1.68 base.

    New

    • DockShare now supports ExtraDock docks as well as DockFlow presets.

    Improvements

    • Settings is accessible directly from the menu bar dropdown.
    • Relocate Locked Dock is available from the menu bar, for the rare case a locked Dock drifts away.

    Fixes

    • Fixed crashes caused by Leader-key hotkey sequences in certain situations.
    • Fixed crashes when choosing Show app from the dropdown menu.
  14. Shiori

    Shiori 1.0 launches

Shiori, the bookmark manager that started as an ExtraBar widget, ships its official 1.0 as a standalone menu bar app.

    • Cloud sync across Macs, a web dashboard, and a native menu bar app.
    • Link Groups open a whole set of URLs at once, and tags can route bookmarks to specific Chrome profiles.
    • One-time purchase, like every Appit Studio app.
  15. v1.68

    ExtraDock-only presets

Switch between Extra Docks setups directly from DockFlow, without touching the native Dock.

    New

    • ExtraDock-only mode lets a preset choose which docks to show and hide. ExtraDock becomes the context, DockFlow remains the switcher.
    • Useful when the native macOS Dock is disabled and should not pop back up on a preset switch.
    • IDE actions can now pick Xcode projects, workspaces, and VS Code workspaces.

    Improvements

    • Light mode got a full visual refresh.
    • Custom Space was renamed to Custom Spacer.
  16. v1.67

    Settings 2.0 and app notes

After more than 60 updates in a year, settings were reorganized from scratch, and apps can carry notes.

    New

    • Add notes to your apps under App configuration, per preset or global. Notes show below the app name.

    Improvements

    • Settings now has clear sections: General, Presets and Switching, Hotkeys, Integrations, Lock Dock, Advanced, Backup and Restore, License, and Updates.
    • The per-preset ExtraDock configuration previews each dock's apps, folders, and widgets. Hover an icon to see its name.
    • Lock Dock shows its status in the page header and moves the Dock back to your chosen display after switching presets, connecting a display, or rearranging screens.
    • The ExtraDock integration is no longer marked as beta, and informational cards were removed throughout settings.
    • Data Management is now Backup and Restore. The Update Last Applied Preset shortcut is now Save Current Dock to Last Applied Preset.

    Fixes

    • Lock Dock now also blocks the Dock from jumping displays while dragging files or windows.
  17. v1.66

    Setting the stage for workflows

Fixes to preset ordering plus the groundwork for deep-link powered App Actions with ExtraBar.

    Improvements

    • Smoother App Action animation.
    • Infrastructure for the ExtraBar integration, so a preset switch can grow into a full workflow.

    Fixes

    • Dragging and dropping apps in a preset no longer scrambles the app order.
    • The Menu Bar Appearance icon updates in real time after changing the setting.
    • App order no longer reverts if you quit right after changing it.
  18. v1.65

    Custom Spacers

Create your own Dock spacers with text or an image to separate logical groups of apps.

    New

    • Custom Spacers add a layer on top of plain spacing. Use text or an image, your choice.
    • On macOS Tahoe some options, such as transparent backgrounds, are still a work in progress.

    Fixes

    • Fixed Focus Mode not changing docks after long sleep periods.
  19. v1.63

    Last Context

Leave a note to your future self when you switch presets, and pick up right where you left off.

    New

    • Last Context lets you write a few words before switching, and shows them when you come back to the preset.
    • Enable it under DockFlow Settings, Last Context.
    • Born from a user email asking how to remember what they were doing before switching presets.
  20. v1.62

    Lock your Dock

The most requested feature since launch: keep the macOS Dock on the screen you choose.

    New

    • Lock Dock keeps the Dock on any screen you pick, reliably, after multiple earlier attempts.
    • A new Updates section in Settings adds a manual Check for Updates button.
    • Skip Active Preset avoids an unnecessary Dock restart when the selected preset is already applied.

    Improvements

    • Settings were reorganized to reduce clutter.
    • Improved deep links, and the Integrations tab now documents the DockFlow CLI.
  21. v1.61

    Deep Links

Switch presets from your scripts and automations with URL schemes.

    New

    • Deep links let automations and scripts switch Dock presets through dockflow:// URLs.

    Improvements

    • Groundwork for the integration with ExtraBar, the Appit Studio menu bar app.
  22. 2025

From launch to the 60th update: App Actions, a new interface, DockShare, and the ExtraDock acquisition.

  23. ExtraBar

    ExtraBar launches

Appit Studio’s third app goes public: a customizable macOS menu bar with apps, custom actions and deep links behind one hotkey.

    • Launched on Product Hunt and TinyLaunch the same day.
    • Built for quick launches without switching your whole workspace.
  24. v1.60

    Wrapping up 2025

The 60th update of the year focuses on macOS Tahoe stability.

    Improvements

    • Add Preset now offers a clean preset or a copy of the current Dock.
    • Improved general Tahoe compatibility by adjusting internal components.

    Fixes

    • Fixed the main screen menu losing its order after changing the preset order.
  25. v1.59

Leader key hotkeys and preset exclusion

Advanced hotkeys, lighter idle usage, and more Tahoe fixes.

    New

    • Leader key: one global hotkey enters DockFlow mode, then a single key switches to a preset. Multi-tap switching is supported too.
    • Preset exclusion: choose presets that keep their apps open when switching away from them.

    Improvements

    • Idle DockFlow uses minimal resources until the next preset switch.
    • Improved license validation.
    • Enhanced stability on macOS 26 Tahoe.
    • DockShare was redesigned and now publishes app reviews for shared presets.

    Fixes

    • Fixed keys being deleted when validation failed.
    • Fixed a UI bug when editing the preset order.
  26. v1.50

    Browser profiles in App Actions

The 50th update opens a dedicated browser profile when you switch presets.

    New

    • Browser Profile actions support Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Brave, Vivaldi, Arc, and Firefox.
    • Safari is left out to keep DockFlow free of the Application management permission.

    Improvements

    • DockShare was completely redesigned. Uploading presets from DockFlow also grows the shared icon library.
  27. ExtraDock

    Appit Studio acquires ExtraDock

The maker of DockFlow takes over ExtraDock, the multi-dock app for macOS.

    • ExtraDock users join the Appit Studio family, and both apps keep getting updates.
    • Two months later DockFlow and ExtraDock were integrated, so one click switches the whole context.
    • The start of an ecosystem around the macOS workspace: DockFlow, ExtraDock, and DockShare.
  28. v1.49

A free platform to share Dock presets, built into DockFlow.

    Improvements

    • Performance optimization and cleanup of early technical debt.
  30. v1.41

    Enhanced export and import

Share presets across Macs with a new wizard, labels, and smart app detection.

    New

    New

    • Drag and drop apps, folders, and files straight into a preset.
    • The preset editor auto-saves changes.

    Improvements

    • Cleaner buttons, a clearer edit-preset footer, and Add Preset in a popup that stays out of the way.

    Fixes

    • Covers the most popular IDEs, with more added on request.
  33. v1.35

    App Actions and Focus Filters

    New

    • App Actions start with Open App: launch your work VPN when you switch to the Work preset, for example.
    • Focus Filters support, so a macOS Focus can set the right Dock preset. The Shortcuts integration stays for other automations.

    • Launched on March 28, 2025, with a Reddit post and three sales in the first 45 minutes.
    • Started as a basic preset switcher, with no App Actions, Lock Dock, or spacers yet.
